Chandigarh stalking: Crucial CCTV proof against BJP leader's son found

In her complaint to police, Kundu said the two men followed her in their SUV, pulled up the vehicle close to her car several times and even tried to block her way.


The CCTV footage supporting a disc jockey's charge that the Haryana BJP chief's son and his friend followed her has been retrieved by the Chandigarh police. The footage was retrieved late Monday night after the police had faced criticism for saying that the CCTVs along the route of the incident were not working.

The footage shows the victim's car being followed by a white SUV. The footage is crucial for the investigation. It was alleged that BJP leader Subhash Barala's son Vikas and his friend Ashish Kumar followed 29 year old Varnika Kundu on August 4 at 12.30 am when she was driving back home.

The footage that has been retrieved will help the police probe the case further. The Chandigarh police which reports to the centre had come in for some heavy criticism and was also accused of protecting the BJP leader's son. "Even before you have registered a case under correct sections, the CCTV footage has gone. Does it not show that the union government is giving diktats to protect the Haryana BJP president and his son?" Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala had said.
