Arrested Delhi secretary, aide sent to police custody


New Delhi, Dec 9: A principal secretary of the Delhi government and his personal assistant were on Wednesday, Dec 9 formally arrested by the CBI for taking a Rs.2.2 lakh bribe from a man who arranges security guards and peons.

Sanjay Pratap Singh, an Indian Adminitrative Service officer of the 1984 batch, who is serving with the Delhi government as the principal secretary in the department for welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and minorities, was detained on Tuesday, Dec 8 along with his assistant Ramesh Kumar for accepting the bribe from a complainant.

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said the two were arrested on Wednesday.

"They were presented before the court of special CBI judge Anju Bajaj Chandna, who sent them to one-day police custody," the official said.

It was alleged that the two people allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs.2.2 lakh from the contractor whose firm is providing security guards and peons to the welfare department.
