Andhra bandh today: YSR Congress demands special status


Amaravati, July 24: Jagan Mohan Reddy of the YSR Congress has called for a state-wide Andhra Pradesh bandh today. Reddy said that the bandh which would be observed across the state of Andhra Pradesh is to protest the injustice by the BJP government at the Centre.

"We will support any party at the national level. Our only demand is special category status to Andhra Pradesh," Jagan Mohan Reddy said. AP has been demanding a special status, which involves extensive financial benefits. The leaders in AP say that the economy of AP has taken a blow after bifurcation.

The Lok Sabha witnessed a no-confidence motion on Friday over the same issue. The Telugu Desam Party which had pulled out of the NDA had moved the no-confidence motion which was defeated.

During the no-trust vote, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he had warned Chandrababu Naidu of getting in a race of one-upmanship with the YSR Congress. I had told Naidu that you are doing this because of your internal politics with the YSR Congress. It is unfortunate that Parliament was used to deal with domestic problems, Modi also said in his reply.
