Hostage crisis in Bhopal ends, jilted lover who held woman captive for over 12 hours surrenders


Bhopal, July 13: A hostage crisis unfolded in Madhya Pradesh's capital Bhopal on Friday as a man entered the house of a woman and held her captive at gunpoint. The 30-year-old man reportedly claimed that he loved the woman and wanted to marry her. The man walked into the flat of the woman around 7 am today and locked her parents in a room.

As per latest reports, the woman, who is a model, has been freed.

"We have rescued the girl, her condition is stable, she has been sent for medical treatment. The man (who held her hostage) has also been sent for medical treatment," news agency ANI quoted a police official as saying.

The jilted lover, identified as one Rohit from from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, surrendered around 7.15 pm today. The cops had also tried to barge in to rescue the woman but they were threatened by the accused. He had threatened to kill the woman if the police tried to enter the house again.
