BJP eyes all 26 Gujarat LS seats
Gandhinagar, Oct 30: BJP's prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is working hard to improve his party's Lok Sabha tally in the state in the next general elections.
Modi has won three consecutive assembly elections in the state but is yet to guide his party to a sweeping victory in the Lok Sabha elections from the state.

In the 2009 parliamentary elections, the BJP had won 15 of the 26 seats in the state while in 2004, its tally was 14. The Congress had won 11 and 12 seats, respectively.

Modi is looking to better Keshubhai Patel's record of winning 20 out of 26 seats

In 1998, the BJP had captured 20 out of 26 seats under the then chief minister, Keshubhai Patel, who later quit the BJP to form his own Gujarat Parivartan Party before last year's assembly polls. It was an improvement over the tally of 16 reached in the 1996 parliamentary polls. Sources in the state BJP said Modi is eyeing to win all 26 seats this time and has asked the state leaders and functionaries of the party to work towards that goal.

The party is said to have conducted local surveys and made other preparations under Modi's leadership. The party believes that announcing Modi as its prime ministerial candidate would encourage voters in Gujarat to cast their ballots more in his favour.
