Keeping in mind that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill will be implemented next year, the Gujarat government is planning to impose the fat tax from next financial year (April 2017).

Before imposing this tax, the state governement will study Kerala model of introducing fat tax. In Kerala, various fast food chains have raised their objection on the imposition of fat tax.
