To get a Congress ticket, first fill Rahul Gandhi's application form!
New Delhi, Sept 02: In what can be described as a "race against time", the Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has introduced a new method for the party hopefuls to get the ticket to contest the upcoming assembly elections.
This time, Rahul Gandhi has set various guidelines for the distribution of party tickets.
According to reports, those candidates who want to contest elections on the Congress Party ticket will be required to fill a five-page application form that will 'test' their knowledge about the constituency and will also ask about the Congress' performance in that constituency.
The aspirants are also required to give details of their previous experience of contesting elections and by what margin they won or lost.
The new way of giving the party ticket has been reportedly devised in an attempt to find the right candidate to contest each seat.
A 5-page application form will test aspirants' knowledge about the constituency.
Madhu Yaski, a Congress Member of Parliament said, "The Congress believes that Rahul Gandhi's giant application form will help separate the chaff from the wheat. As the Supreme Court also ordered, we have to make sure candidates have no criminal precedent, so this will bring in cleaner and more transparent politics."
The party has also decided not to grant tickets to those having criminal backgrounds.
The crucial Assembly elections in four states- Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram are due in November this year.
