New Delhi, Aug 30: The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who otherwise maintains a calm face, on Friday was seen in a combative mode in the Rajya Sabha.

Today, the PM directly attacked the Opposition BJP for calling him a 'chor' (thief).

After exchanging heated words with the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Arun Jaitley, the PM said, "Have you heard of any country where MPs shout and walk to the well of the House and say 'Prime Minister chor hai (the PM is a thief)?"

"Despite what some members may say, I do command a certain respect in the council of ministers", he added.

"Have you heard of any parliamentary democracy where the Opposition does not allow the PM to introduce his ministers?", he asked.

Then, Arun Jaitley reacted by saying, "Have you heard of any democracy where the PM buys votes in a trust vote?"

While speaking on the current economic crisis and the falling rupee, the PM said, "Consensus building is the duty of both the government and the opposition."

"It is the responsibility of the members of this house to send out a message to investors that India is a viable destination", he stressed.

On missing coal-block allocation files, the PM washed his hands off by saying, "I am not the custodian of coal ministry files" after the BJP demanded an explanation from the PM.
