BJP says Food Security Bill is not adequate, won't provide nutrition
New Delhi, Aug 26: The Food Security Bill, that was introduced by Food Minister KV Thomas, has raked up massive debate in the Parliment as BJP cornered the Opposition over the bill and said that the bill is flawed and that they should not call it an 'universal scheme'.
BJP questioned the UPA government and said "This is not a food security bill but a vote security bill." BJP, however said it will support the food bill provided its own amendments were accepted .
According to the UPA government, 67 percent of individuals will benefit from this bill, but BJP questioned this and asked why shouldn't the remaining 37 percent also benefit from the same.
Thomas also says that the bill will plug the leakages in the Public Distribution System (PDS) and will benefit many.
