J&K: Curfew lifted from Kishtwar region

Bangalore, Aug 21: The Jammu and Kashmir police on Wednesday lifted the curfew from Kishtwar region after 12 days of shutdown.

Meanwhile the Jammu and Kashmir government will file a detailed report on the communal violence that hit the Kishtwar district on Aug 9, leaving three dead and many injured.

J&K: Curfew lifted from Kishtwar region

Private and public properties worth millions of rupees were destroyed by rioting mobs which made the police to impose the curfew in the district.

On Aug 18 four member of a ministerial team, led by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, had held separate meetings with leaders of the two communities and a peace rally was taken out in Rajouri border town the same day to ease the communal tension.

On Aug 13 the apex court ordered that families of the deceased would be paid Rs 5 lakh and asked the government to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation for those who injured in the communal violence.

Supreme Court had also directed government to pay Rs 2 lakh compensation to the injured in Kishtwar violence of Aug 9.
