Bangalore orphanage caretaker arrested, cops to face probe
In 2012, the department had issued a framework to curb the discrepancies in child care institutions, which included mandatory registration of child care institutions under the Juvenile Justice Act. Once registered, these institutions will have to keep a record of all the children sheltered and update them accordingly. The children too have to be produced before the child welfare committee.
The Act also specifies the size of the rooms in which the children should be kept and the food they should be given. The police too should be cooperating in keeping a watch on the activities of these homes.
In this case, however, the police proved to be a silent spectator. The insensitive cops too, will, now face the music of the higher authorities. Superintendent of Police B Ramesh has ordered an inquiry into against sub-inspector H P Sridhar for refusing the case and DCP (north east) T R Suresh has ordered an inquiry against Bagalur inspector P A Hegde for not registering a case of sexual abuse.
