Patna, July 30: The JD(U) stirred up a fresh controversy on Monday when one of its MLAs in Bihar Manjit Singh said that it should be probed whether the pesticides that were found in the midday meal in Chhapra in the state were made in Gujarat. Twenty-three children died after consuming the poisoned food while many were admitted to the hospital.

Singh also alleged that the timers that were used in the serial blasts in Bodh Gaya on July 7 were made in Gujarat. He said ever since the JD(U) broke alliance with the BJP, the situation in Bihar turned hostile and it looked as if two countries were at war with each other.

The JD(U) terminated its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP over the question of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's elevation as the chief of the saffron party's poll campaign committee.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had also alleged in the wake of the Chhapra tragedy that the BJP and RJD had made a secret understanding to undermine his government. Both the opposition parties had called strikes after the blasts and the midday meal tragedy, raising the suspicion in the JD(U) ranks all the more.
