India, China working to prevent incidents along LAC: Antony
New Delhi, July 26: Amid concerns over incidents of incursions by Chinese troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), Defence Minister AK Antony said Friday that the two countries were trying to develop mechanisms to prevent unpleasant incidents.
Speaking to reporters on Kargil Vijay Diwas here, Antony said the two countries would meet soon in Beijing to discuss ways to prevent "occasional incidents" on the international border.
"Till
the
final
settlement
of
the
border
issue,
we
are
trying
to
find
out
more
effective
mechanisms
to
prevent
occasional
incidents.
Till
that
time,
our
aim
is
to
maintain
peace
and
tranquillity
at
the
border,"
he
said.
Replying to queries about rising incidents of incursion into Indian territory by Chinese troops, Antony said many points along the LAC were disputed and patrolled by both sides, leading sometimes to embarrassing situations.
Referring to the standoff in Despang in Ladakh in April as an unusual incident, he said there was an effort to have more effective mechanisms to prevent such unpleasant incidents.
Over the last few months, there have been at least three incidents of incursion by Chinese troops along the LAC.
Political parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party and Samajwadi Party have expressed concern over the incidents.
Antony earlier laid a wreath at Amar Jawan Jyoti to pay tributes to the matryrs on the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
BJP also organised a function at the party office to mark the day.
