New Delhi, July 12: Dealing with fame that comes with being the third indian in the last two decades to win the Asian Boxing Championship is not easy. But, Shiva Thapa does that modestly after he won the 56kg Asian title in Jordan city of Amman on Sunday. He credits the support of the Asian staff entirely.

"I do a lot of meditation and concentrate on my job. The hard work has become my habit and my coach and support staff deserves credit for where I'm right now. No one is born with exceptional qualities and only hard work can make that possible," said Thapa on his return from Amman.

Learning from his past experiences in the Youth Olympics in 2010 where he won silver and his failure in London Olympics in 2012, he made it clear that it was sheer hard work throughout that has helped him achieve.

Even though there was no major competition after the London Olympics, Thapa reveals that he trained himself rigorously during this period. "I feel that I'm more aggressive now. Even my technique and power has improved since Olympics," he said.

"I met a lot of boxers and had detailed discussions on several aspects," said the Assamese teenager.

Even national coach GS Sandhu agreed that "This kid has a great future. His counter attacks during Asian event rattled his opponents. His punches now carry more power than ever. He has a bright future ahead."

Shiva's gold helped India finish joint second in the overall standings. L Devendro Singh (49kg) and Mandeep Jangra (69kg) fetched silver medals while Manoj Kumar (64kg) settled for a bronze.
