Karnataka transport fares hiked from today
The ordinary fare from Bangalore to Mysore has been increased by Rs 10 and by Rs 23 by Rajahamasa. The new ordinary fares to Mangalore, Shimoga, Belgaum and Hubli are Rs 307, Rs 247, rs 349 and Rs 356, respectively.
The state transport corporations have defended their decision to hike the fares, citing increase in price of high speed diesel and the increased dearness allowance to be paid to the employees. KSRTC sources said the corporation bears a yearly burden of Rs 120.10 crore because of the increase in the diesel price.
Besides, the rise in dearness allowance means hike in yearly operational cost of Rs 222.68 crore. The transport corporation feels that there will be a yearly deficit of nearly Rs 36 crore despite the hike in fares.
The BMTC bears a burden of Rs 270 crore due to the rise in fuel prices and dearness allowance. The corporation estimates an additional income of Rs 200 crore per annum as a result of the hike.
