New Delhi, May 31: The International Cricket Council (ICC) had warned Indian cricket board about Gurunath Meiyappan and betting. This warning was leaked to Gurunath.

According to CNN-IBN, the ICC's Anti-Corruption and Security Unit had warned the BCCI over the involvement of Gurunath with bookies after the start of IPL 6 in April. Gurunath Meiyappan is son-in-law of BCCI chief N Srinivasan and has been arrested by Mumbai Police on charges of cheating, forgery and fraud.

The news channel has accessed the transcripts of conversation between Vindu Dara Singh and Gurunath.

In the transcripts, Meiyappan is warning Vindu to be careful about his dealings as "ICC has warned BCCI about me".

The transcripts also reveal Gurnaths's specific instructions to Vindu on amounts to be placed and also about specific players in other IPL teams playing on a day. It also shows Meiyappan was even instructing bets on specific runs in an over.

Meanwhile, the police say that an ICC official had "warned" Gurunath Meiyappan to be "careful" about his association with bookies weeks before he was arrested.

According to a PTI report, an offcial of the anti-corruption unit of the highest governing body of international cricket had verbally asked Meiyappan to steer clear of the bookies after his activities came to their notice, a top crime branch officer involved in the investigation said.

"Be careful, I have been warned," Meiyappan had told actor Vindu. This is part of Meiyappan's statement to the crime branch, the source said, adding Vindu has corroborated it.

"We are yet to corroborate Meiyappan's statement with ICC and we at the moment don't even know if any person by that name (given by Meiyappan) exists," he said.

The ACSU keeps players, team members and umpires under surveillance in order to check malpractices in the game.

Crime branch sources said that at no stage BCCI was informed about the "dubious" activities of Meiyappan.

"The ACSU official was in direct communication with Meiyappan. BCCI was not informed about it," they said.

Sources said when Meiyappan was asked why such warning was issued to him, he (Meiyappan) replied "probably because of the company (Vindoo and other bookies) I kept."

BCCI version

BCCI Chief Administrative Officer Ratnakar Shetty spoke to the media and said that there was an ICC ACSU officer present at the last Working Committee meeting, but no warning was given to the BCCI that day.

"To the best of my knowledge, the ICC has said nothing about a warning to the BCCI. We have no control on what they told an individual."

He also said that the BCCI has called for an emergency meeting and the date and time of the meeting will be communicated tomorrow. However, reports say that the meeting is slated for June 8.
