IPL scandal: Now, govt wants Srinivasan to step down

New Delhi, May 29: After Indian Premier League chairman Rajiv Shukla and BCCI Vice-President Arun Jaitley and chief of Hyderabad Cricket Association, it is the Government of India which has expressed its opinion to see BCCI chief N Srinivasan stepping down in the wake of the murky fixing scandals in the IPL which have rocked Indian cricket.

Srinivasan's son-in-law Gurunath Meyiappan, a top official of the Chennai Super Kings, was arrested on May 24 on charges of forgery and fraudulence. His custody was extended till May 31.

The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports said in a statement that the BCCI chief should step down in view of the conflicting interest in the probe into the scandal and take a moral responsibility. Earlier, Shukla and Jaitley said that Srinivasan must stay away from the probe into the scandal. BCCI sources said that it was unfortunate that the board chief made it a prestige issue.
