New Delhi, May 24: The proceedings of the December 16 gangrape trial are getting affected due to frequent illness of the two accused, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma.

In fact, the fast-track court hearing the case had deferred on Thursday the examination of an official of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory after Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma were found absent from the court on account of illness.

Vinay Sharma has been in hospital since May 3 and Pawan Gupta suffering from bleeding nose since Sunday.

Pawan's advocate Vivek Sharma told the court of Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna that said his client reported his illness to the jail authorities last week. "The doctors at the hospital inside Tihar Jail gave him medicines and injections, but his health did not improve," Sharma claims.

The lawyer may file a writ petition in the High Court to conduct a judicial enquiry into why the accused were suddenly falling ill.

"The situation and circumstances that have developed till now suggest something wrong is going on inside Tihar Jail. Otherwise, why would two young, healthy lads suddenly suffer from health problems? Just because they are accused in a case does not mean they lose their constitutional rights," Sharma was quoted in a media report.

About Vinay Sharma's treatment, Delhi Health Minister A K Walia says that all parameters in Vinay's bone-marrow test conducted at LN Hospital were normal. Symptoms indicate an enteric fever, the minister said.
