Girls outshine boys in Punjab Higher Secondary exams

Mohali, May 19: Girls outshone boys in the class XII examinations conducted by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB), the results of which were declared Saturday.

"More than three lakh students took the examinations in March and the total pass percentage was 78.97 per cent. The last year's percentage was 72.31 per cent," state Education minister Sikander Singh Maluka, who was along with PSEB Chairperson, Tejinder Kaur Dhaliwal, told reporters here.

The girl students put up a strong performance by bagging all the five top ranks.

All the topper were from the humanities group.

Mehaka, student of BMC Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana and Maninder Kaur of GTB Khalsa Senior Secondary School Malout jointly topped in the examination by securing 96.89 per cent marks.

Charanpreet Kaur of Sanmati Vimal Jain School, Jagraon stood second in the state by securing 96.44 per cent marks.

Third position is bagged by Jyoti Bansal of Sanmati Vimal Jain School, Jagraon, who has secured 96.22 percentage marks.

The minister added that this year the pass percentage of the students is more than that of last year due to the hard work of the students and education department officials.
