Bangalore, May 9: His party -- Karnataka Janatha Paksha (KJP) could not match to its expectations during assembly election in Karnataka but BS Yeddyurappa has not been lamenting over the meek response of the voters. Rather the former Chief Minister of the state has been celebrating the loss of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which lost its power to Congress.

The Lingayat leader seems to have enjoyed BJP's current position in the state while saying, "I hope BJP leaders don't come to me and request me to come back because I am not going back. BJP is no longer a big party in Karnataka."

Asserting about his importance in BJP and Karnataka politics, Yeddyurappa on Thursday, May 9 was quoted as saying, "I already have half the electoral votes of BJP. Congress won in Karnataka because we split BJP votes in the state."

Yeddyurappa also tried to explain the reasons behind KJP's poor performance in the poll. Counting the reasons, the leader said, "We faced many crises. There was a controversy over party symbol and we had less than one month to prepare ourselves still we got 10 per cent votes. I can't say we did badly."

Yeddyurappa, who had asserted to win in at least 50 seats, could not even reach the half mark. However, the leader retained his home seat of Shikaripura in Shimoga district in Karnataka.

A clear-cut victory for the Congress has been given by the voter and it sailed through with 121 seats while the BJP and the JD-S stood a joint second with 40 seats each in the 223 seats that went to polls on Sunday, May 5.

The results were declared on Wednesday. Senior BJP party leader Ravishankar Prasad also accepted that Yeddyurappa took away "good portion of BJP votes". However, he had defended the decision on distancing from Yeddyurappa as there was "serious issue of corruption and Lokayukta also took a cognizance".

The party tried its best to accommodate Yeddyurappa but did not accede to "Yeddyurappa's my way or highway attitude". "Certain issues are non-negotiable and corruption is one such issue," he said adding, "since 1989, one who wins Karnataka loses Lok Sabha. So I am sure we will win Lok Sabha," he said.
