New Delhi, April 26: The horrific incident of armed robbery in which the son of a lawyer was killed in East Delhi has shocked the entire national capital.

Animesh Datta, the 32-year-old son of Sumer Kumar Datta, retired director of prosecution, Delhi Government, was killed during a robbery at their house in Madhuban, east Delhi on Thursday (April 25) morning.

Police told media persons that six-seven armed dacoits in mask made their way to the B-Block, Madhuban Colony, house of Sumer Kumar Datta (70) around 2.30 am.

First the dacoits held Datta, his wife Prabha (67) and son Animesh captive. Then the robbers ransacked the house and took away Rs 25,000 and gold jewellery.

In the process when Animesh tried to resist the intrusion, the robbers killed him.

"We were woken up by loud shouts and I heard my son's voice. We rushed towards his room but 6 to 7 masked persons came into our room. They held a gun to my head and asked me to keep quiet. They were holding huge daggers and were talking in Hindi. They ransacked the house and tied mine and Prabha's hands and feet," narrated Datta.

DCP (east) Prabhakar said that the robbery took place between 2.30 am and 3.30 am, when the family was sleeping at their B Block residence inside a gated colony. The incident is being investigated by CP (law and order) Deepak Mishra.

Crime committed by Bangladeshi Gang?

A preliminary analysis of the modus operandi of the robbers suggests the crime was committed in the signature style of the Bangladeshi gang that mainly targets houses located near railway tracks.
