Karnataka Cong candidate held for threatening poll official
Yesterday, Muniratna had allegedly threatened RR Nagar Returning Officer Jyothy about his nomination papers. The arrest of the Congress candidate, who is also a film producer, was carried out by the RR Nagar police after the official filed a complaint. Later today, Muniratna was released after he secured bail.
Muniratna, a contractor-turned-corporator, was indicted by the Lokayukta for his role in the death of 17-year-old Sanjana Singh due to a wall collapse in Ganganagar, a few years ago.
In fact, Karnataka Pradesh Congress chief G Parameshwara had written a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi, asking her not to field Muniratna, in the Assembly elections. Parameshwara had urged Sonia Gandhi not to give the party ticket to Muniratna, as he is facing criminal charges.
KJP candidate still in custody
Meanwhile, KJP candidate Venkatesh Gowda (also from Rajarajeshwari Nagar), who had passed remarks against election officials was also arrested today. Unlike Muniratna, he has been sent to judicial custody.
