BPAC march
Bangalore, April 13: If you are in Bangalore today, join the new initiative of citizens at Kanteerva Stadium, near Cubbon Park at 4 pm.

The newly formed BPAC(Bangalore Political Action Committee) has organised the march For Bangalore, which can serve as an example for other cities to assert and put an agenda for the political class.

Leading the march to Freedom Park will be industrialist Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, TV Mohandas Pai of Manipal Global, K. Jairaj, retired additional chief secretary, fashion guru Prasad Bidappa, former athelet Ashwini Nachappa and other prominent Bangaloreans.

BPAC is by the people and for the people.

The BPAC was launched recently by these citizens, with support from Infosys founder and emeritus chairperson N.R. Narayana Murthy.

With Karnataka going to polls on May 5, the BPAC has begun a campaign to get voters to register and then make them aware of their rights. The organisation will support the candidates who are committed to build Bangalore as per the aspirations of the citizens. The BPAC has set an agenda for the political class.

Its Agenda for Bangalore is to maximize people's participation in democracy. The BPAC intends to engage with the leadership of all political parties on the agenda for the city. It plans to provide financial and campaign support to candidates contesting for the BBMP, assembly and Lok Sabha seats from Bangalore, if they support the BPAC's agenda for Bangalore.

The agenda seeks a "special statute for Bangalore"; earmarking profession tax collected in the city for the city; and providing 50 percent of stamp duties collected on property transactions in BBMP limits and 50 percent of road tax collected from BBMP limits for the city.
