Bomb Threat to Paris Eiffel Tower; 1,500 people evacuated

Paris, March 31: An anonymous call made from a phone booth shocked security officials in Paris on Saturday, Mach 30. The caller threatened to blow up the iconic Eiffel Tower.

Security officials rushed to the spot and evacuated at least 1,500 people who were present at the Eiffel Tower. After a thorough search, Paris' anti-terrorism police squad, however, lifted the security alert.

According to sources, after receiving the call, police around 6:30 pm issued security alert and asked people on the site to leave. At least 1,500 visitors including the employees were evacuated within an hour.

A security perimetre was established around La Tour Eiffel, as the Eiffel Tower is called in French, immediately. Police brought sniffer dogs to search the tower, looking for possible explosives.

The famous tourist destinations sees thousands of visitors coming in daily to see the iconic structure. Around 2000 visitors were evacuated from the 324-metre-tall tower. After thorough checking, the police did not find any explosive materials.

Eiffel Tower has received many terror alerts earlier, one at the Champs Elysees Avenue and another at the Saint-Michel railway station.
