Indian employees at Italian embassy drag it to court
In a civil suit that has been filed, 8 recruited executives of Indian nationalities have alleged that the Italian embassy is not paying them on par with their Italian counterparts. The suit has been filed by advocates Gopal Sankarnarayanan and Aman Garg.
"This is in contravention of the laws of India, Italy and the European Union," they alleged. They alleged that their Italian counterparts receive 60,000 euors per year while they receive only 6,000 euros for the same work. They said that this was violating norms and discriminating them.
This issue has been going on for a while. Previously, when this issue was brought to the notice of the Italian envoy he had sought legal action and it was decided that the discrimination that existed should be corrected. Although those representing the complainants reveived a letter that issues would be rectified, later they were told that due to 'budgetary constraints' it would not be possible.
