Taslima Nasreen revolts again, urges all to become un-Islamic
Raising her voice against the practices preached against women, Taslima on Saturday, March 16 tweeted, "Women's rights, free speech, plurality of thoughts are un-Islamic. Everyone who believes in human rights must be un-Islamic. Be un-Islamic."
Taslima's tweet immediately received huge response from different parts of the world. Supporting her statement and views, others tweeted, "not only un-Islamic, non-catholic also. Muslim brotherhood of Egypt and Vatican has also opposed proposed UN resolution on women rights."
"Un-Buddhist too - after all, how come the Dalai Lama has never been re-incarnated as a girl?" reads another tweet in response to Taslima's initial statement on micro-blogging site Twitter.
Taslima, who hails from Bangladesh and has been on exile since 1994, currently stay in an undisclosed location in New Delhi. Taslima caught attention with her feminist views and her criticism of Islam in particular and of religion in general.
The rebellious author's recent statement surfaced following a media report which says the many Muslims states finally gave their consent to the resolution of United Nations (UN) on women.
A report on Times of India says, Iran, Libya, Sudan and other Muslim nations agreed to language stating that violence against women and girls could not be justified by "any custom, tradition or religious consideration."
Western nations, especially from Scandinavia, overruled demands for references to gay rights and sexual health rights to secure the accord after two weeks of tense negotiations between the 193 UN member states.
