Top leaders flank Abdul Nasser Madani at daughter's nikah
CPI-M state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan and Indian Union Muslim League's Lok Sabha member ET Mohammed Basheer sat on either side of Madani even though he is an accused in the Bangalore serial blasts case. Another MP namely MI Shahnawaz (Congress) was also seen at the marriage venue along with former state ministers Thomas Issac and C Divakaran.
They are all well aware that Madani is facing serious charges including conspiracy in connection with the Jul 2008 bomb blasts which claimed one life and left over 20 persons injured in the capital of Karnataka. In fact, he has been behind bars since Aug 2010. Yet the aforementioned politicians chose to openly back him.
On Mar 8, the trial court granted the PDP chief conditional bail for five days so that he can attend the 'nikah' and also meet his ailing father who lives in Anwarassery.
Madani was flown from Bangalore to Kerala on Saturday. When the flight landed at the airport here last night, initially the Karnataka police team that was escorting him did not let him emerge from the arrival terminal as hundreds of PDP activists were waiting to greet their leader.
Madani was later transported in a van to a private medical college where doctors conducted some tests on him. However, the results of the tests have not been revealed so far.
A special Kerala police team is supposed to look after his security till he returns to Bangalore on Mar 12. The team is led by ADGP A Hemachandran. The state government has already announced that Madani will not be allowed to breach the conditions of his bail.
