Chennai, Feb 8: Finally, multilingual controversial film "Vishwaroopam" was released across Tamil Nadu on Thursday, Feb 7. Expressing happiness over the release of the film after being stalled for almost two weeks, actor-director Kamal Haasan thanked his fans, co-actors and friends.

But, the 58-year-old actor also wondered why there are riots, indirectly referring to protests surrounding his multi-crore film.

In an address to the press, Kamal Haasan said: "I have survived because of all of you who took it up as their cause. If there is so much love, I wonder why there are riots. How can our society lead to the ugly side so quickly? I will never be able to repay the love and justice I have been shown. I am fortunate to be loved so much."

Kamal Haasan also thanked his friends and colleagues from the film industry for supporting him while the film was banned: "Would like to thank all my peers who have supported me. Overwhelmed by their love for me."

Earlier, a group of Muslim organisations protested against the film. They said the film showcases Muslims in a bad light. Tamil Nadu government banned the film.

"Thank you India. Thank You Tamil Nadu. See to it that artistes like me don't get into trouble again," said a hugely-relieved actor.

The ban on the film has been lifted after Kamal reached an agreement with the Muslim organisations. "Vishwaroopam" was already released in neighbouring states of Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.

The film is doing well. Even the Hindi version of the film "Vishwaroop" is doing good business across North India.
