Lahore court asks cops to trace Indian-origin businesswoman
Rajvinder Kaur Gill, a jeweller, went to Pakistan in Aug 2012 to attend a conference and participate in a diamonds auction. Though she kept in contact with family members for the first few days of her trip, Rajvinder mysteriously disappeared thereafter.
Last month her father Sikandar Singh Gill filed a petition, seeking the Lahore High Court's help to find Rajvinder. Justice Sheikh Najamul Hassan then asked Aslam Tareen, the Lahore police chief, to submit a report on the probe by Dec 31, 2012.
Yesterday, the police told the court that Rajvinder stayed in three hotels at Lahore after arriving from Canada and met some people. However, the investigators could not produce any of these persons as witnesses.
"My daughter landed in Lahore on Aug 25, 2012, and she is missing. We got couple of text messages from her on Aug 26 and 27. After that, we did not get anything," Sikandar Singh Gill said.
His lawyer Aftab Ahmad Bajwa told newspersons that the investigators have admitted to being clueless about Rajvinder's whereabouts. Bajwa added that Aslam Tareen has been ordered by the court to attend tomorrow's hearing. Justice Sheikh Najamul Hassan has stressed that the Lahore police chief must "try his level best" to trace Rajvinder.
Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, is a distant relative of the 41-year-old woman. Reports say Rajvinder phoned prominent Pakistanis like Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Imtiaz Safdar Warraich of the Pakistan People's Party before she came to Lahore.
According to police sources, she also contacted a practioner of black magic in the United Kingdom and another magician in Pakistan.
