Is Congress scared after Modi's impressive win in Gujarat?
Political experts say Congress is a worried lot after Modi's win. They fear that if BJP portray Modi as their prime ministerial candidate, then the general elections of 2014 might be a tough battle for Congress. Congress camp felt the jitters of Modi's win yesterday. Although they are not publicly making any statements, insiders say that Congress has started making plans to thwart "Modi Wave" spreading across the country.
Analysts suggest that Modi would be easily acceptable for urban middle-class voters. But they doubt if he has a pan India appeal.
After his win, Modi expressed his gratitude to the people of Gujarat for voting the BJP to power once again. He took to Twitter shortly after a win and said, "I would like to thank the 6 crore people of Gujarat & the Almighty for giving us an opportunity to serve the people in the years to come."
The second tweet was more or less on the same lines. "I thank all those who voted for us & promise those who have not voted for us that we will work harder to get your vote next time!"
At 5.15 pm, Modi tweeted, "Gujarat has written a new chapter with a new language in the annals of Indian politics - one that rewards unity, harmony &Vikas!" Two minutes later, he averred: "This is not just a victory of Guj, but also a message to everyone that development & good governance triumph over divide & rule politics."
