Bangalore, Nov 22: The Karnataka High Court today rejected the bail plea of People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Abdul Nasser Madani who is one of the 31 accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case.

Citing his health problems, Madani had applied for bail earlier this month but the court reserved its verdict on Nov 7. The PDP leader said that he can only move around with the help of a wheelchair and the vision in his right eye has been completely impaired by diabetic retinopathy.

Stating that even his left eye has just 30 per cent vision left, he also claimed to be suffering from cervical spondylosis, disc prolapse and cardiac problems.

Madani alleged that he had not received proper treatment for these ailments ever since he was lodged in the Parappana Agrahara prison more than two years ago.

Public Prosecutor HS Chandramouli told the court that Madani is being provided the best treatment in jail. The prosecutor submitted that the accused cannot be set free at this stage as he poses a great danger to the society.

After hearing the arguments put forth by both the prosecution and the petitioner, Justice Nagmohan Das rejected Madani's bail application.

However, the accused was allowed to seek treatment in any hospital of his choice. Madani will always be under police escort, the court stressed.

Karnataka Police arrested the PDP founder from Kerala on Aug 17, 2010. They chargesheeted him for conspiring with those responsible for carrying out the nine blasts here on Jul 25, 2008. Madani assisted the terrorists too, investigators averred.
