Rajkot, Nov 6: Former Gujarat Chief Minister and currently the chief of Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) Keshubhai Patel on Monday accused current CM and BJP leader Narendra Modi of making hollow promises to the local industries of Saurashtra and said that the region did not gain under the latter's 11-year rule.

Addressing a media conference in Saurashtra, Patel claimed Modi had promised to develop the engineering and foundry industry in Rajkot into automobile hub but nothing of that sort happened in reality. The former BJP leader slammed the Modi government saying the latter was giving incentives to Tata for setting up Nano project but industries in Saurashtra were not developed.

The GPP leader also criticised the BJP's 'Dhan daan' drive. He said instead of giving sops to Morbi's ceramic unit, the state government only caused pain to those industrialists who did not give money to the party. He also accused the government of slapping shutdown notices to many dyeing and printing units in Jetpur.

Patel said Modi welcomed big industries but paid little attention to small-scale industries in Saurashtra and allowed them to suffer in the last 10 years.

Political leaders in Gujarat were gearing up for the high-profile election scheduled on Dec 13 and 17 and Keshubhai's latest salvo at Modi was a part of the poll-preparation game.
