After nightclubs, hospitals flaunt bouncers

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital
Bangalore, Sept 10: Next time you visit a hospital be prepared to greet burly bouncers. After nightclubs and pubs taking help of bouncers to avoid any untoward incident, hospitals in India are fast opting for bouncers to make their premises free from any unpleasant episodes.

Tough and muscular guys are going to become a norm in hospitals across major cities in India. The decision of hospitals to hire bouncers has been the outcome of series of unpleasant and violent incidents happening within the premises of various hospitals across the country.

Hospitals are fast replacing pot-bellied, old and inefficient security guards by healthy, smart, muscular and tough-looking bouncers.

Dr Narendra Saini, spokesman for the Indian Medical Association, said that thousands of attacks occur in Indian hospitals every year.

Violence occur in the hospitals mostly because of agitated relatives of patients, said sources at various hospitals.

Medicos say that when patients die in hospitals, relatives often blame and even attack doctors.

Bouncers mostly secure emergency and labour rooms in hospitals in order to restrict agitated relatives and friends of patients to resort to any violent means.

Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital, New Delhi has hired bouncers after it has experienced a series of violent incidents in the recent past.

An official at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital said that bouncers were not hired to scare away people.

The official added bouncers are otherwise polite but are tough when it comes to control unruly visitors in the hospital.

Earlier, a man in the southern city of Chennai had hacked to death a surgeon, whom he held responsible for the death of his pregnant wife during a surgery. This could be one of the reason behind hospitals opting for bouncers in order to provide better safety and security to their staff members.
