Vilasrao Deshmukh
Chennai, Aug 14: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh passed away at the Global Hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, Aug 14.

67-year-old Union Minister for Heavy Industries had been suffering from liver cancer. A doctor, who attended him at Global Hospital in Chennai, stated that Vilasrao had hepatocellular carcinoma, most common type of liver cancer, which led to multiple organ failure. The former minister was under treatment of liver failure over a year ago.

Doctors were planning to conduct liver and kidney transplant surgery but such planning could not take place. He died at 1:30 pm. Even the man who was supposed to donate liver and kidney to Vilasrao Deshmukh died of heart attack in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Earlier, his son Riteish Deshmukh, a Bollywood actor, showed his willingness to donate a part of his liver to his father. However, doctors were not ready to accept Riteish's proposal as Vilasrao's health condition was deteriorating.

Gujarat CM Narendra Modi earlier had asked the Gujarat health department to arrange cadaver liver for the Union Minister for Heavy Industries.

While tweeting from his personal Twitter account, Modi tweeted, "Instructed Gujarat's health department to procure cadaver liver on top priority for Vilasrao Deshmukh, who is undergoing treatment."

"if anyone known to someone can get done his life can be saved today I went to c hm in chennai hospital pl try save his life," urged Mr Shukla while tweeting.
