Mumbai Mantralaya fire: Massive fire engulfs CMs office

Mumbai, Jun 21: Massive fire broke out at the Mumbai secretariat office on Thursday at 3 pm, leaving at least 2 dead and several others injured.

The fire was first reported from the cabin of Babanrao Pachpute, Maharashtra state minister and NCP leader, suspected to have broken out due to a short circuit.

According to reports, 11 people have been admitted to 3 various hospital in Mumbai, while several others feared trapped were rescued after choppers from the Indian Navy were pressed into action.

The secretariat was immediately evacuated on the orders of Maharashtra Chief Secretary soon after fire engulfed the Mantralaya building.

The office of Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan was also gutted in the fire. He was, however, not present in the office when the incident took place.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that the crucial documents related to the Adarsh scam could have been destroyed in the fire. The CBI, however, confirmed that they have the relevant copies of Adarsh file.

"I am confident that all the important files will be safe and intact," said State Forest Minister Patang Rao.
