Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, May 16: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said today that her government believed in bringing people from diverse linguistic and cultural background together. "West Bengal is truly a cosmopolitan state. We never divide people on the lines of language and culture. I never treat people as Bengalis or Marwaris but some people intend to play dirty games which is unacceptable", Banerjee said.

Banerjee was speaking at a function following the release of Anjali Gitan Ri, the first poetic translation of Rabindranath Tagore's Nobel-prize winning work, Gitanjali, in Rajasthani language. "I don't believe in divide-and-rule policy. We are like a family. This bond is required to strengthen communal harmony in a secular state", she said.

Stressing the need to bring together people nationwide despite cultural diversities, Banerjee said there should not be any discrimination or differences. "We must carry forward this message and set an example for the whole world", she said. "We love all languages. It's good to learn more languages and enlighten our cultural wisdom", the Chief Minister added.

Speaking on Anjali Gitan Ri, translated by eminent litterateur Ikraam Rajasthani, Banerjee said, such initiatives should be taken in translating works of freedom fighters and eminent personalities like Gandhiji, Netaji and others.
