New Delhi, Apr 24: Abhishek Manu Singhvi's resignation brought relief for the Congress party leaders and officials as his (Singhvi's) decision helped them to escape from facing tremendous criticism in the Parliament session which has been resumed on Tuesday, Apr 24. [UPDATE: 'Dirty' CD: Khurshid slaps BJP for its Kolaveri over Singhvi]

The party claimed that Singhvi's decision on resignation has been taken at a right time. Congress General Secretary and Chairman of Media Committee Janardan Dwivedi said, "Abhishek Singhvi has taken the step on the basis of whatever situation has come to the fore. It is the right step."

Earlier, it was speculated that several controversial issues including the 'dirty' CD row allegedly featuring Singhvi in a compromising position in his office may storm the Parliamentary session on Tuesday.

Despite his resignation, Singhvi may not escape the ire of critiques as BJP leader Arun Jaitley and many others already have demanded to cite an explanation from the former spokesperson of the Congress and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law and Justice (Singhvi).

Earlier, on Monday, Singhvi submitted his resignation and claimed, "Since I am a disciplined party soldier, I did not think it fit to subject the party to any inconvenience on this account. All allegations are patently baseless and false."

Singhvi's resignation raised questions towards Congress party, though Mr Dwivedi refused to accept that Singhvi was forced to resign.

"I think, it does not make much difference," said Dwivedi and also added, "if Singhvi has quit on his own and the party has accepted his resignation, the end result was the same."
