India withdraws Tsunami warnings after quake in Indonesia

New Delhi, Apr 11: India finally withdrew tsunami alerts from its coastal regions in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa. A tsunami alert was issued following the massive earthquake in Sumatra coast on Wednesday, Apr 11.

People were shocked and traumatised following the news that tsunami might hit the Indian ocean and coastal regions of the country at any time on Wednesday. While the first tremors were felt at around 2 pm, second tremors were felt at around 4:15 pm in Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and many other parts of the nation.

Government officials informed that a few thousand people earlier were evacuated to higher ground from parts of Andaman and Nicobar islands on Wednesday following the major quake in Indonesia, as the islands prepared for tsunami waves up to 3.9 metres high.
