New Delhi, Mar 30: There is no relief for Indians. Petrol prices in all major cities in the country likely to be hiked by this weekend when the Budget session in the Parliament will come to a brief break. [Read: Be ready to burn pockets, Rs 5/ ltr petrol hike on Mar 31]

The disappointing statement came from CPI(M) and politburo leader Sitaram Yechury on Friday, Mar 30. If the information by Yechury is to be believed, then prices of petrol will be hiked by Sunday, Apr 1.

"They are waiting for the break in the Parliament session to hike the prices. By Saturday, you will see the petrol prices will shoot up. So fill the tanks of your cars and scooters. You will make some little savings," said Yechury.

The news may disappoint the people in the country as several other reports recently claimed that petrol price might be reduced in metro cities, especially in Delhi and Bangalore. Though Goa state government has already announced a reduction in the price of petrol by Rs 11 per litre. The current petrol price is Rs 66 per litre and the proposed reduction will make it the cheapest in Goa, once the state budget is passed.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar blamed the central government for current high petrol price in India and also claimed that he soon will expose the UPA government.

During a telephonic interview with the Firstpost, Parrikar has been quoted as saying, "I want to expose the Central Government on the petrol prices. It’s an artificial hike created by the Central Government. The Centre is simply looting the people."

"It (central government) is charging additional Rs 16-17 a litre of petrol in the name of excise and custom duty," added Parrikar.
