Tokyo, Mar 11: On March 11, 2012, Japan observes the first anniversary of the worst calamities that crumbled the entire nation inflicting a number of severe crisis.

A minute of quiet, prayers and anti-nuclear rallies have been planned on the first anniversary of subsequent disasters that left almost 16,000 dead and 3,647 missing.

In 2011, a 9.0 massive earthquake on the Richter scale struck Japan, triggering a wall of water that wiped out the Japan's northeast coast. This could be termed as the worst tragedy ever in Japan's history, though the country was no strange to such calamities.

As the earth rattled to its worst, it also kicked off nuclear radiation crisis. The ill-fated nuclear reactors in Fukushima, Japan, launched a unrelenting fear across the world as it replaced the people's trust on atomic power with fear.

Sources said that the coast guard authorities were still carrying out search operation in rivers and shores for remains, considering the requests of families of missing. However, the possibilities of finding any appeared to be very bleak.

Hundreds of people in black dress gathered in port of Ofunato to mourn the death of their compatriots and to offer white chrysanthemums at an altar devoted to the as many as 420 residents of town's dead and missing.
