Karunanidhi-MK Stalin-Alagiri
New Delhi, Feb 4: With the rift within the Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) getting all but obvious, the split was revealed further in the party's General Council meeting that was stalled due to the succession war between DMK Chief Karunanidhi's two sons, MK Alagiri and MK Stalin.

The party have had to face some setbacks recently following the indictment of former Telecom Minister A Raja and now with the name of Home Minister P Chidamabaram also dragged into the 2G scam by Janata party President Subramanian Swamy.

The fact that Karunanidhi is set to retire from the helm of affairs of the DMK has caused tensions among Alagiri and Stalin supporters. Reports have suggested that Karunanidhi's favourite son, Stalin was stopped by party leader Veerapandi Arumugam from raising the succession matter in the meeting.

With Stalin supporters harping that he made the next party chief, Alagiri's supporters wants the very same for their leader. Karunanidhi commented on this issue, "There was no discussion on who the next leader would be. The next leader would be decided by the leaders of the party who are elected by party elections. It'll approximately take one year for that to be decided."

The DMK chief has also been quoted as saying, "There is no confusion over who's DMK's next president. The elections for party president will be held after the organisational polls. It may take one year."
