M'lore air crash: SC bashes AI, asks Rs 75 lac compensation
The court was hearing a petition filed by S Abdul Salam and kith and kins of the victims of Mangalore crash in 2010. Salam's son was one of the victims who lost their lives in the air crash.
Earlier, the Kerala High Court had directed Air India authorities to give Rs 75 lakh as compensation to the families of the deceased.
The Air India Express from Dubai on May 22, 2010 had crashed outside Mangalore airport in Karnataka, killing 158 people when it burst into flames after running out of runway and plunging into a nearby forest.
The CVR recording of 2.05 minutes indicated that despite being warned by the aircraft computers to "pull up, the captain had not paid any heed. He also ignored the co-pilot telling him to go-around," stated the report.
