Sri Ram Sene's Mutalik arrested for assaulting BU staff
Supporters of Muthalik staged a protest in front of the police station and expressed their anger over the arrest.
The Distance Education Department at the Bangalore University had to cancel the examinations in Aug and Sept over suspected exam malpractices at Davangere, Koppal, Chitradurga and other districts. Angered by the move, Mutalik and his followers barged into Dr Niranjan’s office and demanded that a re-examination be held on Dec 26.
The Sriram Sene goons then attacked Niranjan and threw chairs on him and slapped him. Dr Niranjan promised to conduct the examination in the Centres at Davangere, Koppal and Chitradurga districts if CCTV cameras were installed.
In spite of the assurance, Mutalik and men assaulted Niranjan. Unleashing the violence, the men also destroyed a photocopier and a telephone instrument.
Taking up the matter, the University Registrar, Prof B C Mylarappa wrote a letter to the Ulsoor Gate police asking them to take action against Mutalik and his men. He also condemned the act. The situation in the premises were tense with a considerable crowd gathered at the venue.
The police had to rush to the spot to take control of the situation. Sriram Sene activists were seen shouting slogans against the Bangalore University, the Vice Chancellor and Dr Niranjan.
