Essar Group
New Delhi, Dec 8: The Essar group will soon have to face trouble as the CBI is all set to file its chargesheet against the group's promoters in the 2G scam.

The take comes despite Law Minister Salman Khurshid's disagreement with attorney general Goolam Vahanvati over the fact that he did not consult Khurshid's Ministry before taking the decision. Vahanvati later approved filing of the chargesheet.

A clean chit was given to the Essar group by the Law Ministry over an application filed by the former and said it did not commit any unlawfulness.

"If the law ministry takes up the matter with our ministry, then the matter could be delayed further. But we are almost prepared to file our chargesheet and there are no remaining legal hurdles," said an official.

Sources also reveal that the chargesheet may not name any government officials as accused by CBI. Essar was not qualified to bag the 2G licences because it had 33 percent stake on Vodaphone-Essar.

The chargesheet was prepared in advance and will be filed in a couple of weeks in the court.

The chargesheet could be filed against the accused for conspiracy and cheating.

Essar group, however, is refuting charges saying that it followed telecom guidelines.
