Google all set to kill Google Buzz and other services
The announcement was made by Google through its blog, and said that the services that will see termination will be Google"s code search engine, Buzz, Jaiku which let users send updates to friends, the Google personalised homepage feature iGoogle, and the University Research Program for Google Search.
This move comes as Google"s effort to streamline services and shunt out the not-so-popular features. This will see Google shutting down a number of products and services and merging others into existing products as features. Google stated in its blog post, “Changing the world takes focus on the future, and honesty about the past. We learned a lot from products like Buzz, and are putting that learning to work every day in our vision for products like Google+. Our users expect great things from us; today's announcements let us focus even more on giving them something truly awesome."
Google Buzz was mired in controversy for its privacy issues. Buzz faced a lot of flak after it was integrated into Gmail service. The controversies surrounding it also led to Google facing hiccups into its foray into the social networking space. The launch of Google + however received great response and crossed the 40 million user mark quickly, commented Larry Page, Google"s chief executive officer.
