Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Shivaraj Patil quits
Patil who took over the anti-corruption office from former justice Santosh Hegde, tendered his resignation after facing allegations about land allotment in his name, which caused a dent on his clean image. Recently, Bangalore Mirror, accessed few documents which accused that he got two government alloted plots in Bangalore by breaching rules. Ideally one person is entitled only to one property allotted by a government agency or a housing society
It was alleged that he had acquired two plots of land, one in his name and the other in his wife's name flouting rules. One of them being a 9,600 sq ft plot allotted by the Karnataka State Judicial Department Employees House Building Cooperative Society in 1994 and the other a 4,012 sq ft plot from the Vyalikaval House Building Cooperative Society (VHBCS). It was alleged that he had acquired the land flouting the by-laws that bars two people from the same family of buying land separately. The VHBCS site is in the name of Patil's wife. He had even built a house in one of the plots years back.
However, Patil rubbished all the allegations.
This was also touted as a move to tarnish his strong official reputation and push him into the dark, thus he pose no threat to any corrupt netas, and officials in the state.
