New York, Aug 25: Newton's Third Law of Motion states, "For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction." While considering this law in social networking field, we can say that along with its positive effects, there are equivalent negative effects too.

Though social networking sites like Facebook, Google Plus, MySpace etc help you to connect with your friends, it will affect you adversely. Along with the pleasure you enjoy on these sites, knowingly or unknowingly some bad habits may get in to you.

Adding one more to the negative effects of social networking sites, a study conducted by National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University found that teenagers who spend time on social sites are more likely to use alcohol and tobacco.

According to the University study, teens who use social sites are five times more likely to smoke, three times likelier to use alcohol and twice as likely to smoke marijuana.

Researchers interviewed 1,037 teens and found images of their peers drinking or using drugs posted on these social sites may have an effect on them.

Forty percent of the teens admitted that they were exposed to these kind of photos and tempted to follow their peers.
