New Delhi, Jul 18: One of the horrifying nightmares that most young students might have is ragging. But, it's the time for an end to this unending campus menace as promised by Delhi University. It's just four days away for the 2011 students' batch to start off with their DU journey. The University administration and the Delhi cops have joined hands to make it safe for the new students from getting victimised to the traditional practice of ragging.

Few students of 2010-11 batch felt that the incidents of ragging go unreported because of the fear that senior students create among the juniors. "Even if students wished to file a complaint, the seniors threatened the juniors with dire consequences if any such complaint was forwarded to the college authorities. So, no one had the courage to take the matter forward," said Karan Arora (name changed), a resident at the Hindu College Hostel.

While authorities maintain that students still face ragging in college and hostel campuses, they also claim that cases of ragging have decreased over the last six years. Infact, Principal of Kirori Mal College Bhimsen Singh claimed that two years back few students were expelled over the complaints against them by the juniors. This incident has a positive effect as ragging came to a complete stop within the college and premises after that.

On the other hand, the Delhi police have decided to fall hard on the senior students if they make an attempt to harass the juniors.
