Washington, Jun 27: The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in United States has started a formal investigation into Google's business practices.

According to media reports, Google has been facing inquiry related to antitrust regarding its search engine. Google's rivals alleged that Google has been using its search engine to promote its other services, such as Google Maps, Travel and shopping comparison.

Google search engine dominates the market with more than 70 percent market share. According to the complaint received by FTC, Google has been ranking its products in a top level on its search engine in order to hide rivals' services.

The California-based company confirmed FTC's inquiry to its business. In blogpost, Google said that the company was "unclear" about FTC's concerns.

"We recognize that our success has led to greater scrutiny. It's still unclear exactly what the FTC"s concerns are, but we"re clear about where we stand," Google Fellow Amit Singhal said in a blogpost.

Google official said that it will co-operate with the inquiry and it always aimed to offer the best product for end users.

"Using Google is a choice—and there are lots of other choices available to you for getting information: other general-interest search engines, specialized search engines, direct navigation to websites, mobile applications, social networks, and more," the company said.
