Bangalore, Jun 27: On Sunday, Jun 26 the police turned down the permission to former Prime Minister HD Devegowda to stage a day-long protest in front of Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa's official residence on Monday, Jun 27.

The dharna was planned against alleged non-release of funds for developmental works in his Lok Sabha constituency of Hassan district.

Bangalore city police stated that prohibitory orders were in place, which was the sole reason for turning down the permission for dharna to Gowda.

“We have not permitted the former prime minister to hold protests in front of the Chief Minister"s residence. Prohibitory orders have been promulgated within two kilometre-radius of Vidhana Soudha, hence rallies cannot be held there," Bangalore City Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji said. But in an addition, he said that the dharna could be allowed elsewhere.

Mirji said that if the city police allowed the protest to be staged in front of the Chief Minister"s residence, then everybody would have gained the guts and courage to do the same in front of CM's residence.

He also added that the protest could be held at Freedom Park, Mahatma Gandhi statue near Ananda Rao Circle or at Mahatma Gandhi statue near the Chinnaswamy cricket stadium.

Gowda said, "There is no question of going back on my dharna. I am also aware of the legal issues. My dharna will not create any law and order problem".
